THE "BUSYNESS NARRATIVE" IN THE EARLY CHILDHOOD CLASSROOM
Can we PLEASE get rid of the "Busyness Narrative" in the Early Childhood Classroom...
Why are Early Childhood Professionals taught to plan multiple activities during the day? Why Are Early Childhood Professionals led to believe that being a "good Teacher" means running around the classroom all day? Why are Early Childhood Professionals taught to think that Modeling Language means filling the room with Adult voices?
Can we teach them that it is more important to be present than it is to be busy...
Can we set up systems for planning that allow the children to explore materials over an extended period ...
Can we provide opportunities for observation and reflection...
Can we spend more time listening to young children and less talking at them...
Can we provide the support that Early Childhood Professionals need to be the best versions of themselves...
We need to do better!
