If We Truly Cherished Children
If We Truly Cherished Children
It is so fascinating to me that groups of people in the United States go on and on about how precious life is and how much they cherish children. Yet their actions say the direct opposite of that statement.
If we truly cherish our children in the U.S., would these statements align with that sentiment:
Children in the U.S. can be legally married in 41 states.
School administrators can physically punish children in the U.S. in 47 states.
Children in the U.S. can be sentenced to life without parole in 22 states.
Children in the U.S. can work in hazardous agriculture conditions in all 50 states.
'The U.S. is the only country in the world that has failed to ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the most widely ratified human rights treaty in history. The treaty addresses children's rights to education, health, protection from violence and exploitation, and a broad array of other rights. Ratification would require the U.S. to strengthen its protection of children. But in the U.S., many of these rights are left up to individual states, not the federal government." (Human Rights Watch Sept.15th, 2023)
It is crucial for those of us who advocate for young children to speak up. Use your voice (and the power of your vote) to do better for all of our children. They deserve better!
