Collectors

Collectors

My family and I attended a local gem and fossil show in Vermont this past weekend. My daughter (now 21) has always loved collecting rocks and gems. As the parent of a collector, you quickly learn that your child’s bedroom will always be filled with numerous collection piles ready to be sorted.

My brain never takes a break from the world of ECE. Each table I stopped at during the show was organized and labeled. These displays made me think of last week’s email, which I shared about setting up your science area like a museum. The pictures at the top of this post are a great visual for what that could look like. Creating a learning environment that truly honors the interests of the children is an incredible act of connection.

As we looked at all the gorgeous gems, I heard so many adults exclaim how much they love rocks and how they could talk about them forever. It made me think that, as children, they must have had adults who nurtured and supported their love of rocks. I hope each of you knows how important you are in a child's life. You may be the only person in their life that listens to and is invested in learning about their interests.
